24/7 Help

Advocates are available by phone 24 hours every day. We also offer walk-in services during regular business hours and scheduled appointments for safety planning, information, and support. For domestic abuse services, please contact us or call our helpline at 1-877-890-7788.

Court Advocacy

The court system can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate on your own. That’s why the Family Violence Project has court advocates on staff to assist and recommend resources.

These advocates may:

  • Provide support, objective knowledge, and information about the legal system in regards to domestic abuse.
  • Furnish information about your rights and remedies under Maine law, including, but not limited to protection from abuse orders, criminal charges, and employment leave.
  • Guide you through court paperwork, help you to prepare for hearings, and support you in making your own decisions.
  • Provide referrals, work with law enforcement, and do safety planning.

Please note, advocates cannot provide legal advice.
