Safety planning isn't easy, and every situation is different and complex.
Whether you're living with an abuser, are preparing to leave, or have left an abusive situation, it’s a good idea to think about ways you can keep yourself and your children safe.
Our suggestions won't all work for you, but we encourage you to think about what might and then to create your own safety plan. If you do, it will be it a little easier to leave when you feel you can – or must – and then to stay safe. Making a plan also gives you some control over your life again.
And remember, you’ll always find someone to listen and to offer guidance and support at the other end of our free, confidential helpline – 1.877.890.7788.
Give us a call, and we'll talk through your particular safety issues, help you understand your legal rights, identify community resources – shelters, financial assistance sources, and food banks – and discuss possible steps you can take.
Remember, no one deserves to be abused!
