Programs of the Family Violence Project
    We offer the following services:

    ADVOCACY/REFERRALS
Our advocates help individuals on the hotline and in person to assess their circumstances, explore options, and make SAFETY PLANS. Our hotline is also a general "helpline" for anyone seeking information about abuse. Court advocates assist individuals in filing Protection from Abuse Order petititions and provide support during related court hearings. We provide referrals to and information about community resources available to meet the needs of each individual.

    EMERGENCY SHELTER
Temporary, emergency shelter is available to individuals and their children who need to leave home because of abuse.

    SUPPORT GROUPS
In these groups, people experiencing domestic violence and abuse share their concerns or problems, offer encouragement in making difficult life choices, and provide support toward personal growth.  Some groups have free childcare for participants. Support groups are held on multiple days at various times.

    CHILDREN'S PROGRAM
Educational trainings are offered to groups and service providers working with CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO OR HAVE EXPERIENCED ABUSE. We also have an advocate who works out of the Departent of Human Services office, to assist caseworkers and families who need additional domestic abuse information and services.

    SCHOOL BASED EDUCATION
Educational presentations are offered to schools and other community groups who work with youth, to raise awareness about domestic abuse and TEEN DATING VIOLENCE, and to provide information about community resources available to youth and families.

    COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Community education services focus on law enforcement, hospitals, social service agencies, and other community groups.  Speakers, films, workshops, and displays are designed to educate people about the dynamics of family violence, to raise awareness, to provide information for intervention, and to improve institutional responses to victims and perpetrators of abuse.

    BATTERERS INTERVENTION
Our Menswork program offers group education for men who have verbally, mentally or physically abused a woman in a relationship.  Because many men who abuse their partners have abused their children as well, Menswork groups also address the connections between intimate partner abuse and child abuse.

    VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Volunteers generously contribute thousands of hours of support and are crucial to our operation.  Our 36-hour volunteer training course is offered three times each year, and prepares individuals to volunteer in a variety of ways.

With the exception of our batterers intervention program
all services are free and confidential.
